PLATFORM ARTSPACE @UC Berkeley
opening 2021

Platform Artspace is an outdoor exhibition laboratory in the Department of Art Practice at UC Berkeley, founded and directed by Professor Jill Miller, who led its design and conceptual development beginning in 2018, and after pandemic delays the space opened in 2021 as a site for art that thrives outside traditional galleries: collaborative, performative, and community-centered. A curatorial board of undergraduate and graduate students from across campus shapes its programming, which includes pop-up exhibitions, an artist-in-residence program, video screenings, and workshops in printmaking, poetry, and crochet. Its Bizarre Bazaar artist market turns the space into a public marketplace. Platform prioritizes experimental work and artists who have been underrepresented in institutional spaces, including BIPOC, LGBTQI+, non-binary, and disabled artists and women, and it serves as a site for dialogue and civic engagement across the university and the wider community.
